A Realistic Summer Watering Schedule for Oklahoma Lawns
Published June 23, 2026
Deep and infrequent beats daily sprinkling every time. Here is the schedule that builds drought-tough roots.
Light daily watering trains roots to stay near the surface, which is exactly the wrong strategy heading into an Oklahoma August.
Aim for roughly an inch of water per week, delivered in two soakings rather than seven sprinkles. Deep watering pushes roots down where soil moisture lasts.
Water early in the morning. Midday watering loses volume to evaporation, and evening watering leaves blades wet overnight, which encourages disease.
Not sure how much your system puts down? Set a few straight-sided cans on the lawn and time it. Most people are surprised in one direction or the other.
